65Z9D Restarting PC HDMI2 input

65Z9D - Ver 8.0.0 - Kernel ver 3.10.79 - PKG6.6520.0252NAA
Eco - low - Idle timer 4 hrs
Inputs - PC HDMI2
Outputs - HDMI3 - Sony receiver 1050

Having an issue with the tv entering a restart loop after waking from idle timeout. This happens about once every 3 weeks.
Nvidia based pc connected to HDMI 2, 4k output, mostly streaming youtube tv via browser. What happens is the tv will shut down due to idle timout (4hr). Once i power it on, it displays signal and sound normal, then after a minute or two there is a click and the tv restarts. It will keep doing this UNTIL after it restarts back to HDMI2 I press home and open an app like youtube from the home menu, let that run for a few minutes then switch back to HDMI2. The issue seems to be from the powering on to HDMI2 input. On one restart i heard the HDMI audio cut off before the screen went black and the device restarted.  It is always an abrupt restart like it had a problem and just restarted.  I restarted the pc in between the tv restarting to confirm it is not a handshake issue. This started about two months ago and i update to my current software version.

One thing i noticed is that the time it takes to reboot is about the same time it prompts that a usb key is inserted. During the boot loop i did not get the prompt that a usb is inserted / open album when on HDMI 2 only when i was in the youtube app.

built in diagnostics ran no problems. factory reset was done before the current os version when this was happening last time. Since the idle timer is 4 hrs this device shuts on most days overnight when i am asleep, so this happens about every 3 weeks now.
Initially i did let it keep rebooting since i was not aware of the home screen option as i use this tv connect to a pc mostly.
Wondering if anyone else has seen this.

Sorry i have not posted in a while but i was able to figure this out.  It turns out that it was a USB drive that i had plugged into the TV.  When the TV restarts normally from the home screen, after a minute or two it will detect the usb drive and ask if i want to open with album or something.

I realized that this was happening still when on hdmi input, which for some reason would trigger a reboot of the TV.  Once i removed the USB drive from the TV this stopped.

The drive was a kingston USB 3 data traveler, pluged into the USB 3 port  Happened on different sizes, from 2 to 100GB

Hi @Jonnyomega, welcome to the community.

Can you confirm you are running the most recent firmware on all devices?

Thanks

Mick

Hi Jonnyomega,

The version of the TV is outdated. Have you tried updating it to V6.5555?

Cheers,

Rose

The issue has persisted through 2 tv and stereo firmware updates, and the issue is still sporadic.  I do not think the generic update firmware will be a solution to this.  I have read through the release notes of each firmware and have not found anything related to the issue.

i am now on the latest firmware for all devices to rule that out.

Hi Jonnyomega ,

Have you tried clearing the cache by pressing Home - Settings - Storage and reset - Internal storage - clear cached data ?

Cheers,

Rose
