2015 Bravia Android TV Issues

I thought I'd create a generic thread to cover off the issues being encountered on the 2015 Bravia Android TVs. I've listed my issues below with fixes / workarounds and responses from support. All comments and solutions welcome!

 

 

1) Hot Swap HDMI doesn't work - manifested by no input on HDMI channels 2, 3 and 4 on the KD-49X8305C. Workaround - reset the TV, either by holding down the remote power button for 5 seconds or by switching the TV off at the wall and then back on again. 2) HDD Recording doesn't work - error message states a system update is required but none is available when checking. Hopefully this will be fixed soon by a firmware update.

 

3) Netflix App doesn't work - this seems like the app has been deliberately disabled. So far a support case has only recommended that a factory reset be performed (took two days to get to that cracking piece of advice.....), with no improvement as a result. 4) Sound lag and performance issues after the TV (KD-49X8305C) has been on standby for a while - manifested for me as stuttering and sound / picture sync issues in all apps (youtube, amazon instant video etc) and HDMI sources (PS4, seperate YouView box etc). Hopefully this will be fixed in a firmware update, at the moment workarounds involve either changing channels to get the sync to work or in my case having to turn the TV off and then on again at the socket.

 

As stated previously, all comments welcome. Personally I'm willing to give Sony a couple of weeks to fix this, but if it's not done soon I'll be sending my new TV back for a refund as it's not really fit for purpose.

Actually, they do have AC cards in them which given they didn't put in a decent ethernet card in is suprising.

I connect to my AC router at between 500-600mbps - the router is about 8m from the TV.

I configured the router to be AC only in the 5mhz band and gave it a different SSID so the TV always connects via AC. It works much better than the ethernet connection if you are trying to stream from a NAS.

I've got an older Sony TV (not 4k) and it's connected to my 5.1 amp via hdmi, but I need to press the sync menu button on the remote to swap between sound from TV or amp, select "Use audio system for audio output". Worth a try to see if that fixes it.

Does someone know if there is a plan to upgrade our Android TV to Marshmallow 6.0 version? Have lots of features, several specifically designed for TV.

In 99.9% of cases ethernet will be faster than wifi. Even on an 100Mb nic.

 

Even if these Sony TVs had AC wireless cards, which I doubt, ethernet would be faster in most cases.

Could you explain why a wifi router configured this way works better than the Ethernet connection? I have my Bravia connected via Ethernet to a gigabyte router, same with my NAS. Why would getting even 600 mbps via wifi be better?

Gigabit switch / router / cables mean nothing if the TV's ethernet port has a max 100mbps 

Did people find a fix/workaround for the "Scene: Full" popup in 3D?

 

A second thing.. if I enable surround/Audio passthrough in PLEX, I cant play a single movie. it just tells me that the connection isnt fast enough for streaming (Im connected directly to the router and nas using Cat6 cable in between) and do I turn it of, the movie starts within a secound without any buffer issues?

Whilst 500mbps wifi is numerically faster than 100mbps Ethernet, in my experience Ethernet is generally a lot faster and more stable a connection. Haven't tried AC on the TV so can't comment but I won't be rushing to jump over to wifi in a hurry.
