Flash Sync.

I just tried to take some flash photos but it seems that the flash is not syncronized with the camera, Without the flash I can take a reasonable shot but it needs flash, when using the flash, although the flash is firing, the photo is not affected by it.

What have I done to upset the settings?

Just wondering what camera are you using? is it the on camera popup flash or a full sized additional flash? also what shooting mode are you using?
