Sony z3 compact xperia back and home button not working

I am using z3 for almost a year and dint have any issues. Since last two updates i am facing two problems.

1. The drop down notification menu does not displays properly when slided over from top to bottom

2. Back and home button works once in a blue moon. Previously they were working great. Now i will have to try for more than 25 times to make that happen or restart the device.

Please let me know if this is a software issue caused by the latest software release or is there a way to bring back the old version of software. Eventually i need a working software and not this piece of ugly software quality.

Please respond when this issue will be resolved.

Thanks for the tip of press below icons , so I verified that if I use a larger finger , not works as it is more accurate now them it works better using small finger !

Hi all,

I put on Glove Mode as a workaround. If i slide slowly from the bottom it works.

Cheers

My Z3 Compact has stopped responding to the bottom buttons (back, home, multi). Using Developer Menu and tap visualisation, I noticed it simply does not register taps on button bar. I tried:

  1. Soft reset from menu
    1. But nothing changed
  2. Reset using volume up and on
    1. Nothing changed
    2. Note: method does not work unless I push Power on, then both buttons. It still vibrates 3 times.
  3. Connecting to ADB and running "adb shell wm overscan 0,0,0,30
    1. Cannot connect to computer for debugging - phone does not ask for authorization and stays in Charge Only mode in spite of me picking any other option several times
  4. Xperia Companion reset
    1. Phone goes straight to charging
  5. Other (none worked)
    1. Glove mode
    2. Reset using down and on

Any ideas? Or this phone is as good as a brick now?

It's as good as a brick now I'm afraid. I had actually been contemplating buying a new XZ1 Compact well before this latest software update. Having seen how arrogant Sony has been behaving by completely ignoring the issues with the update. All the consumer feedback...they don't care.

So...no more Sony products for me. I've switched to Huawei and is not comming back...

if you want to try the risky method you can try to fix it with cricket electronic gas lighter, the detail how to do it see youtube with keyword "mengatasi touchscreen error menggunakan korek api cricket"

or you can try my safe way, by using usb otg attached with mouse

so my mouse work as pointing devices in my z3c screen,

i know its ridicilous but at least i can use my z3c

@bonggo, glad to know that I am not the only one that is using OTG + Mouse to control this unworthy device. @sony, before I know that you are too arrogant, I was thinking of upgrading to Z5 Compact and buy a smartwatch. Now no more business from me or my family.

My story in a nutshell:

  • Z1c for around 2 years. It had an issue with the charging and I bought...
  • iPhone7, which was sold in two weeks just because I realized, that I prefer Android. I sold it and bought...
  • Z5c, which had the issue we're discussing in 9 month. I've decided to give it another chance and bought another...
  • Z5c, but it was a prototype phone LOL, which I couldn't return to the shop. That was the last drop. And I bought...
  • Galaxy S8 and happily waved bye-bye to Sony.

I liked their phones, but Sony's support and bug-fixing totally.

I receive an error message after entering "adb shell wm overscan 0,20,0,0"

Any ideas?

Issue for me started with the top notifcatin bar not sliding down.

Now its the bottom navigation bar that is no longer working.

This is clearly a hardware issue just as others have mentioned.

I have the Z3 Compact for about 25 months now.

My only work around that I think is the best solution is if you have Xposed installed, you can use this app: Dimensions editor
http://repo.xposed.info/module/com.hamzah.dimenseditor.

You can easily change the height of the nav bar or notifcation bar.

Slowly loosing screen realestate and burning long time faith in the brand.

Thanks Sony.
