Sony z3 compact xperia back and home button not working

I am using z3 for almost a year and dint have any issues. Since last two updates i am facing two problems.

1. The drop down notification menu does not displays properly when slided over from top to bottom

2. Back and home button works once in a blue moon. Previously they were working great. Now i will have to try for more than 25 times to make that happen or restart the device.

Please let me know if this is a software issue caused by the latest software release or is there a way to bring back the old version of software. Eventually i need a working software and not this piece of ugly software quality.

Please respond when this issue will be resolved.

same issue as well.

sony usual update arrived and the back/home/minimize buttons stopped responding.

following a communication with Sony, I did a "software repair" procedure as well as a factory reset. The issue did not resolve. I then switched on glove mode which seems to be working, but requires triple or quadruple the effort to click on something.

over the weekend, ver. 6.0.1 arrived which I was hopping would solve the issues. Sadly not change!!!

It must be noted that on the lock screen, all buttons work prerfectly without the glove mode, hence this points to a software issue, not a hardware issue!

Sony, please help!!!!!

Had come this way, hardware issue!

In 3 months you'll lost nearly all your screen, and could no more enter you pin code.

Some people named that: programmed obsolescence.

Another victim here. Noticed back, home, recent apps buttons stopped working. Backed it all up did a software repair. No love.

Upgraded to marshmallow a few weeks ago. Didn't notice anything different except for perhaps higher battery drain from android os.

That area of the screen works like others have said from the lock screen.

Besides a new screen has anyone found a good solution to this?

Yip.  Same problem.  Smack in the middle of a deadline.  Nice one Sony.

If this does not get sorted in the next 48 hours, I'm banning all Sony products from my household forever and spreading the word.  And I'm a very loud bridge to go burning

Sent my phone to Sony Support yesterday due to this problem. (No back button, no drop-down menue) Being the second major failure , motherboard changed last September, within the 1 year warranty periode, my patience with this phone and Sony Support (Malaysia) is totally gone!! In one year since purchase, phone been more or less useless and in for repair 25% of warranty time!!

I have the same problems.  I have done the whole reset process (which took several hours BTW), and nothing changed.  For me it began after the most recent update.  Completely FUBARed my phone.

My mobile had Android 5 and the problem apperar from nowhere, but now ,its recently upgrade to Android 6, and I think, the problem will be fixed, but the problem remain. It could be a firmware upgrade went bad or a simple bug in the OS, however this is a user based forum, if your device is still covered by warranty you should contact Sony Support.

Just a note: if the nav buttons are not operative, while using glove mode, try to install Google now launcher and report if the nav buttons works. If they do, the issue is with the Sony Home Launcher. It happened to me once, upgrading from 4.4.2 to 5.1.

Dear all,

my Xperia Z3 compact has recently been updated to Android 6.0.1 and few days latter the keys on the bottom of the screen (back, home and the other to see open apps) are not wroking anymore. Few more details:

  • That's not a software issue since the whole touch screen is working properly. Indeed, the microfone and camera bottoms in the locked screen (that are also in the bottom of the screen) work fine and I've already run the Diagnosis of the touch screen (Seetings->About phone-> Diagnosis-> Touch Screen) and I've passed the test;
  • I've already tried several times restarting, both with the power on/off button and with the OFF button in the SIM card slot;
  • The Android version and all softwares are uptodate;
  • I experience the same problem in safe mode;
  • I've already run the software repair through the Xperia companion (on Windows 10);

Nothing worked. Could you kindly transmit the issue to the development department, hoping they can do a new patch that would fix this issue?

Best.
