Channel 5 HD on Freeview

Channel 5 HD has been limited to subscription services for a long time, however its finally about to come to the Freeview platform.  After getting a license from Ofcom in February, they are now testing on Freeview.

So what does everyone think?  Good news right?

Are there any other channels thar you would dearly like to see broadcast in HD?  I personally would like to see a 4K channel, but sadly this is a long way off - for Freeview anyhow.

Brilliant news. Call me a wierdo but I paid a lot of money for me telly so if a channel is Youview, I will watch it on there as opposed to through the Sky Q box. Do people in the know the normal averge time a channel takes to do testing and then to launch?

This is good news, Yes CH5 does carry some questionable content, but they also carry plenty of good films. lets hope they carry them with DD 5.1 unlike ITV which is just DD 2.0

Thats a good point.  Fingers crossed for DD5.1 - especially for the movies.

If you have a HUMAX HDR or HD box, you can actually add the channel.  See:

Cheers Quinnicus,

Tuned in all of my gizmos today and there it is on 105 Freeview (which can be searched for on Ch 30 manual tuning option - saves ruining your channel order if using the auto tune function).

We lose one then we gain one - BBC3.....Channel 5

It's about time more Freeview channels became HD, what's stopping them ?

Regards

Bandwidth and cost.  Why fit 5-8 HD channels per multiplex (mux) when you can have 15-20 SD channels per mux.  Set to get worse soon when some of the precious bandwidth is 'given' to mobile operators and the closing of some muxes that were temporary.  But then we shall be moving to DSO2 where instead compression will be moved to mpeg-4 on all muxes instead of just HD ones.  Thats how i understand it anyway

Remove the stupid shopping and soft-porn channels I say!
