Is it possible to transfer video/ audio from tape created with a video Hi8 Handycam CCD-SC55E to a DVD in my desktop PCV-W1G? If so, HOW?!

You need a capturing device which can connect to FireWire or USB2. Haupagge are usually good cards.

Kee-lo!
many thanks for your help. Perhaps I can prevail further: the camera connection is a 14mm pin (yellow) into a socket for both audio and video. The PCV-W1G computer has firewire as well as USB connections. Which card from Hauppagge would be appropriate?
Best regards

I'm sure that the W! has both s-video and composite video in sockets. It is then easy to use Click to DVD to capture and convert the video.

You could also condier oinvwesting in a new Digital 8 camcorder that you link by Firewire (I think). That way you can record digitally for the future, but still play your older 8mm. It's a little bit more money, but you can pick them up pretty cheaply now.
