VGN-SZ2M/B: Fan loud as Ferrari?!

Hi all!
My fan sometimes is loud as a Ferrari. It does at least sound like one from time to time.
To me, that's an indication it's broken one way or other. Is there a way to install a new one (=have a friend who's good at that do it)? E.g.: Is there a place they (=fans) can be purchased from? And can they actually be replaced in the first place? (My warranty has long expired, so returning my notebook is not a (viable) option.) 😕

is your vaio getting hot

If so you could try cleaning the cooling vents and fan of dust with compressed air (you should be able to get this from your local PC shop), check the instructions on the can before using because if used incorrectly you could damage the fan..

Having the fan cleaned with compressed air was the first thing I had done when the problems started. Didn't help, though. Interestingly enough, the fan isn't as loud most of the time. But it's not correlated with CPU load, either. Also, the fan is loud less often since I've installed Win7...

The problems initially started when I downgraded (format c:) back to my original WinXP from WinVista...
