Hi,
Has anyone defragmented their VAIO at all ??? Does this help building the library faster when music has been copied ???
I am wondering as I cannot get files upto my VAIO anymore using SS3.1, always seems to get stuck converting 192bit down to 132bit ATRAC at around the 9% mark !!!
I'm sure that I read somewhere in the instructions that you shouldn't defrag the player, I tried to do it when the player was messing around and it sat on 0% for ages so I sacked it off.
Also, when I did an analysis on the defrag program, it found files which I hadn't put on the player, in the end I formatted the player and reinstalled everything AGAIN!!!
Now my PC crashes if I try to import new music files on SS3.1, this is all getting on my tit-ends and I'm seriously thinking of swapping the player, especially as the price of others seem to be falling at the moment.
The player works fine if you choose all of the MP3's you want on it, load them on and never put any more on. Once you try to add more at a later date, the wheels fall off, I've got 10gb free on my 40gb player, once I have burned the last of my music onto my pc, I will treat it as an image and leave it at that.
Sorry for hijacking this thread samartin, but once I start thinking about the fannying about I've had to do since buying the pocket, my piss starts to boil.
It's a shame that Sony will lose a lot of sales in the portable MP3 market purely because SS and Vaio transfer suck ass.
Hey you haven't hi-jacked the thread, you've answered my question regards the defragging so that's cool 🐵
I know what you mean with the VAIO experience, great player but REALLY fecked up SOFTWARE !!!
I never buy Sony apart from the PS series but as for as entertainment goes I'll go elsewhere, I don't think I'll buy another Sony player in the near future as they can't standardise with the current market and that's what makes a great player these days... The implementation of MP3 is a bit of a joke as it changes some TAG/HEADER within' the file so it's no longer a true MP3 as far as I understand it...

I know my mum said not to play with matches so im off to set my house on fire
Well I can't remeber that is is in the Dutch guide.
It is a simple FAt32 filessystem so you can't mesh up much. In fact the format does almost the same, it only deletest the fat (file allocation tavle) replaces it and after that you restore the files. If a defragmenter would mesh things up there wouldn't be a working pc (is there anay?)
