Radeon 9800 pro compatabilty with RZ vaio range !!!!

i have previoulsy posted on the issue of the small psu size that is present in the vaio lines (rz) after much time spent covering the net for additional info i found the american sonystlye page www.sonystyle.com they offer a customized rz computer one of the options is a radeon 9800 pro 128mb under the specifications it lists that the power supply is no more than 295 watts no matter what graphics card you choose also it offers a second hard drive and a audigy 2 all on the same power supply the same PSU that all vaio rz computers come with well the recnt ones at least 422p 424 etc i cant imagine american sony vaios differ at all to the european models, i thought this was some interesting news, maybe someone has some comments or additional info to prove it all worng ??!! anything welcome but looks like i might be willing to buy a radeon and see what happens :!: thought this might be helpful to a few people

Day

Hi.

I actually have a vaio pcv-rz221 with geforce fx5900 ultra and audigy 2 and it all works ok with the standard psu.

Just thought you might like to know.

RX644 /E here with Abit Siluro 5900 OTES, second hard drive and SBLive! 5.1 on standard PSU - no problems. Well, no PSU problems anyway!

The ATi site says that a GOOD 300W PSU is enough. You do have crappy ones which are officially 300W but the 5V and 12V drop quickly when under load. A good one is more stable and can handle more current..

Although the Vaio PSU in most units runs 268 W to 295 W (depending on model), they are very efficient and high quality PSU's. Most users will find their machines can handle all NVIDIA GeForce FX cards up to and including the FX5700U & FX5900U . These are equivalent to ATI's 9600 & 9800 series. Many VAIO users have upgraded to these cards without any power issues. That includes having two harddrives and most bells & whistle features.
