My Fx701 won't switch on :( Any suggestions?

My Sony fx701 is 1 and a half years young and yesterday it was just on, loading something, when all of a sudden the whole computer shut down.

When I try to switch it back on, the little lights come on whilst I have my finger holding down the on switch button, but as soon as I let go, they disappear.

There is no sound inside when i press it on. If I carry on holding down the button, the lights go out after 5 seconds anyway.

Can anyone help?

Hey there, this same thing happened to me!!
What I finally had to do is disconnect 1 of the "tapes" that connect the touchpad to the computer. Now it turns on and works normally! I have to use an external mouse now, though.

I know this must be hard to understand, but on my laptop, the whole area where my touchpad is (the bottom 1/3) has its own separate plastic cover. When I unscrewed the corresponding screws from the back, then lifted the cover CAREFULLY, there were two "tapes" (that have individual tiny wires in them) that clip from the computer guts to the underside of this cover (where the mouse buttons are). It was one of these mouse button tapes that I disconnected to get the computer to turn on again. My laptop is quite a bit older than yours... probably going on 3 now.

Here's a photo I found of my model, where you can clearly see where the touchpad is...

Hope this works for you! Good luck![/img]
