I just got a VAIO S5HP notebook together with its docking station. I am trying to install a SW program which requires a HASP connected to the paralel (LPT) port. I plugged the HASP at the port of the docking station, but it is not recognized, apparently because this is not a normal parallel port, but (as SONY says) a USB Virtual Printer Port.
Is there any work around this problem, so that I can use the HASP and the program on my new VAIO?
I have also made a case by e-support, but 3 days now I have no reply, which I find very disappointing
Hi,
I assume a HASP is a dongle?
I was in a similar situation witha Vaio Desktop and purchased a USB to Parallel Port cable, which I assume is similar to how your docking station is able to provide a parallel port.
I wish you well if my assumptions are correct as I was never able to succeed with the USB/Parallel Port cable. Perhaps it is fine for a printer, but like you, it was not a printer that I was trying to connect.
You could check in the bios for any parallel port options but I think its unlikely as the port is situated on the docking station.
My resolution was to purchase a PCI parallel Port card but unfortunately that would not help you.
Good luck with Sony, and be patient
