DVD RW DW-U12 A

Aloha

I use a DVD RW DW-U12 A and I've been having a spot of bother.

It won't burn to most writeable DVDs I've got.
(I think its because most of them were cheap.)

On the ones it does burn to, they won't play in my RDR GX300 dvd player/recorder. (Although they do play in the £29.99 Asda special)

I bought some Sony DVDs to write to but I still get a disc error notice on the GX300. Any Ideas?

I've upgraded the firmware for the driver and I've now noticed I get a message on the pc saying some discs that are set not to close may not play blah de blah blah.

How do you set/unset discs to close/finalize?
Any help at all would be great before I finally get off my chair and go and phone a Dell salesman.

Hey jumpsuit,

Sounds a right pain - nice to see Asda's DVD players are good for something though

Nero allows you to close the DVD (means you can't write anything else on them). Usually you pick this during the selection period before you drag the files to the disk.

As for DVDs, I use Verbatim.

I think that you should use TDK web siteClick Here

Ive been using them sence i had my VAIO PVC-RS502.
It reads it like twise as faster then any other DVD+/-RW.

I recommend that you buy TDK 2x speed DVD-RW becasue as i said it whites perfect and playback perfect on any DVD player even your £29.99!

Thanks Guys
I forgot to check this post for a while.
I sorted the problem by using Nero (and sony and tdk discs. Even Mr DVD discs work) and have completely disabled drag and flop.

The GX300 is now behaving itself apart from the macrovision goblin employed by Sony to sit in it and p*** me off:smileygrin:

ps nice one for the gamespot link!

Drag and Drop as been playing up with me as well!

But i got to say that Philips Discs are no good for a VAIO, it records ok but it takes long to white and takes ages to ealse the disc!

I dont recomened there disc's at all!
