DVD Drive Problems

I have a FSVGN-FS115s Notebook and the DVD drive no longer works has anyone experinenced similar problems

This model usually has the DW-D56A optical drive, check this out by right clicing on the drive (in My Computer) and select properties > hardware tab.

Sad to say this drive is a real donkey and there have been no end of posts on this forum reporting partial or total failure.

There is a firmware update on Vaio-Link but, judging from previous posts, this will make no difference. Best contact support to arrange for your notebook to be collected and the drive replaced.:smileysad:

My drive opens whenever it feels like it, sometimes during mid burn.
Very frustrating, looking into getting an external drive as I cannot return it as I have moved to America.

Just to inform you...I also got the same problem before and I contacted SONY. They replaced the drive. Same problem is still occur. I call them but they are really annoying. I dont understand the real function of SONY warranty. Hope you get good luck!!

opens when it feels like it
burns when it feels like it and recognizes cds and dvds when it feels like it

got the same drive .i have my laptop for 4 months and it worked fine at the start......over the last couple months it been having problems like playing some dvd movies but not others but now it wont play any dvd moives it ..it just doesnt see my dvd in the drive it start up but nothing happens ..i watch them before on it and even new one wont play install new dvd software..play a couple of time now wont play at all....it read dvd data and cd and burns ok but wont play any moives now .......uninstall all my programs i photoshop ect........still didnt work did a complete system restore ....update all the drivers ...stilll dam wont work...

just give up smoking thinking about starting again ...thanks sony.....should i just send it back
