CPU Failure, 209 MHz?!

Hi.

I've got a serious problem! My computer only runs at 598 MHz with fancontrol set to Performance and 209 MHz with Battery Life settings!! What the heck could be wrong?! I've had problems installing programs that require 800 MHz as minimum, but it never occured to me that there could actually be something wrong until yesterday when I ran a test!

I've got a VGN-A197VP with a Intel 1.72GHz Centrino Processor.

Please someone!!

Hi Figo

What processor information do you have on the System Properties 'General tab' Right click My Computer > properties.

Same as mentioned in the above thread 😕

With Battery Life settings:
VGN-A Series
Intel(R) Pentium(R) M Processor 1.7 GHz
209 MHz, 768 MB RAM

If I set it to Performance it changes to 598 MHz

Is your Vaio plugged in or running on batteries?

If Plugged in does the frequency of your CPU change if you select the 'Power Management Off' power scheme.

I believe as Thalamus said its all down to your power settings and battery versus mains power. If a CPU fails its dead, it doesn't just slow down.

I could be wrong but I thought that all Centrinos run at 1.2GHz when on Max performance, on battery.

I also don

No diffrence in performance, still only runs at 598 MHz 😞

Is my CPU broken or something?!
