BLOCKED START UP PROGRAMME

Hi everyone, please can someone advise me...at startup a message appears saying: Blocked Setup Programs (when I investigate further and select Run Blocked Programme, it offers me: SSBkgdUpdate. Should I update this or just ignore it.
I apologise if this seems a silly question but this is my first Vaio VGN CS11Z laptop - just finding my feet.
Any suggestions would be gratefully received.

Hi vaio von d and welcome to Club Vaio.

Do you have any Scansoft software installed on your Vaio? The most popular ones are Omnipage Character Reading Software (converts scanned documents to text format) or the PDF Converter or sometimes as a part of OpenOffice.

I think Scansoft are now renamed Nuance.

If you have some of their software (usually bundled with a scanner) then just turn off the automatic updates - you do not need this program to check for updates everytime you start so remove it from your automatic startup programs by going to START and typing MSCONFIG into the search box. Disable this file.

If you do not have any software by Scansoft then be a little wary as some viruses can disguise themselves as any product that auto-runs at startup. Check that this file - SSBkgdUpdate.exe - is in the directory "C:\Program Files\". Some malware camouflage themselves as SSBkgdupdate.exe, particularly if they are located in "c:\windows" or "c:\windows\system32" folders. So check where the file is held and run an AntiVirus scan as a precaution.
