hello dudes

i m a happy owner of a VGN AR 21M with a WIN XP media center embeded in;well,i've installed a XP SP3 instead of the XP media center (because the last one was really heavy et full of things that i dont need or use) anyhow,i've installed all the drivers from the site of VAIO but....

still :

the hotkey Fn+F5 nor Fn+F6 are not working (only those ones)->there is a display of the contrast icon but stood still with no effects, so i always have a sore-eye ;(

the motion eye is out it's even not detected?????,

and the buttons S1 and S2 are out (it's not a big deal)

my last request is (plz plz) if those ones couldn't work ,how can i access the recovry partition (that still exist)

well thanks all of you for your hot waited responses :slight_frown:

Hi hamazing.

Have you installed the Sony Utiltities for your model?
What Video Driver do you have installed.

The Fn+F5 and Fn+F6 depend on having the correct Utilities installed and also a Sony compatible XP Video Driver.

Download the Original Utilities Package from here: -

http://support.vaio.sony.co.uk/downloads/preinstalled/preinstalled.asp?site=voe_en_GB_cons&c=0&s=VGN...

and extract the Utilities by right clicking on the downloaded file AR2_Utilities.zip and choosing 'Extract All'. Choose to extract to C:\

This will create a folder C:\Utils. Go into each of the following Utilities installers in C:\Utils and run the Setup.EXE file in each IN THIS STRICT ORDER: -

1. Sony Utils Installer 1 SonyUtils.DLL
2. Sony Utils Installer 2 Sony Shared Library
3. Sony Utils Installer VAIO Event Service
4. Sony Utils Installer Setting Utility Series

You may have to do this more than once.

The motion eye VCC2 camera should appear in 'Imaging Devices' in Device Manager, If the driver has not been installed properly it will appear somewhere else in Device Manager as a USB Device with a yellow warning triangle next to it. Search through every folder in Device Manager because if it is not there at all then the camera is broken or has become disconnected (quite common but very difficult to fix because the screen must be removed from the lid).

If you find it as a USB device you will need to install the driver. Download the Original Drivers Package from the same link as above for the Utilities. Extract the drivers in the same way as to utilities and you will create a folder C:\Drivers.

You will have to force the camera to install with the Sony driver. In Device Manager, right-click on the Unknown USB Device and choose 'Update Driver'. Choose 'No, not this time' -> 'Install from List or Specific Location' -> 'Don't Search, I will choose a driver to install' -> 'Have Disc' and browse to C:\Drivers\Camera\VGP-VCC2

For the camera to work you must install the Vaio Camera Utility from the Utility download directory C:\Utils\Vaio Camera Utility.

You ask how to access the recovery partition. This is not possible if you have changed the Operating System because you will not have the Vaio Recovery Utility. You can only use it for a full reinstall of the original XP MCE operating system by tapping F10 during boot.

I suspect you are looking to install some of the original Software. This is not possible from the Recovery Partition - however it is possible with some difficulty from the Recovery Discs - I hope you made some before reformatting and installing XP because that is the only way you can get the software applications. Even then some software is not reinstallable as it is packaged with the Media Centre installation.

If you have Recovery Discs have a look at this thread by philfree from some time ago.

EDIT: Ooooooooops - forgot the link to philfree's thread. Here it is: -
