Sony support center's reply to the issue.

Turning on Wi-Fi Direct

Android 4.1 / 4.2

To turn on Wi-Fi Direct

  1. From your Home screen, tap the Application screen icon.
  2. Find and tap Settings > Wi-Fi.
  3. Press the menu key > Wi-Fi Direct
  4. Make sure Wi-Fi Direct is turned on in the other device.
  5. Tap Search for devices.
  6. Under PEER DEVICES, tap the device you want to connect to.
  7. Wait for the status under the device name to change from Invited to Connected.

Sending files using Wi-Fi Direct

The advantage with sending files with Wi-Fi Direct is that it goes quicker to
send larger files than with, for example, Bluetooth.

To be able to transfer files between two devices you have to:

  • Make sure both devices are Wi-Fi Direct compatible
  • Make sure that both devices have installed Office Suite Viewer 7 or later
  • Share the files using the Office Suite Wi-Fi Direct menu in, for example, Album if you send a photo

Downloading Office Suite

To download Office Suite

  • In your Xperia™ device, download and install Office Suite Viewer 7 or later from Google Play.

Sharing a photo using Wi-Fi direct

To share a photo using Wi-Fi Direct

  1. Open Album, tap the photo that you want to share with another device.
  2. Tap the share icon and select OfficeSuite Wi-Fi Direct. Alternatively, tap the OfficeSuite Wi-Fi Direct icon.
OfficeSuite Wi-Fi Direct starts scanning for Wi-Fi Direct devices automatically.
  3. Make sure the device you want to share the photo with has opened Office Suite.
  4. Under Available devices, tap the device you want to share the photo with.
    Its status changes to Invited.
  5. Wait for the status to change to Connected. This may take some time.
The photo is now sent to the other device.

Thanks for the reply, but according to that guide it only searches for wifi direct enabled devices and makes peer connection.

but there is not optin to share files using wifi direct,i want to share fiiles between two devices using same function.

share optin does not show option of wifi derect or NFC as it shows share with bluetooth.

There are myriad apps on the play store

Doesn't sony provide inbuilt option for the same rather than downloading third party app?

they have given wifi direct and nfc so they must give optin to use the same, dont you think?

The great thing about Android is that you don't have to rely so heavily on the OEM as you can download apps to customize your phone as needed.

That is correct, but it would have been better if sony implemeted this function in OEM itself.

hope they include it in new updates.

NFC

SETTINGS-WIRELESS AND NETWORKS- MORE-NFC( TURN IT ON) - ANDROID BEAM (TURN IT ON)... Now you can use NFC to beam videos, apps, contacts etc..
