Only receive sound when resetting 43W805C with hT-X8500

I can only get TV sound and control the volume from my HT-X8500 when I hold the power button on my W805C remote for 5 seconds (turn off/reset).  I have to do this every time I watch television.  I do not have a skybox (a lot of people seem to get interference from those).

I seem to have this problem on and off, but recently it has gone more permanent.  Before I resolved the problem by turning both devices off and disconnecting the power from the wall for a few minutes, this solution no longer works.

The TV 43W805C detects the sound bar correctly through Bravia Sync and it knows it is there, it turns the soundbar on and off correctly.  The TV just does not ouput any sound through the soundbar, I know when its a problem because pressing volume gives no volume indication on the tv screen.

I've tried turning both devices off, completely disconnecting them from power, disconnecting the Bravia Sync and then re-connecting etc.  I still have the same problem, as soon as I turn the tv off with the remote and then back on again, the sound via the HT-X8500 is gone.  Note, there is no sound from the TV either, just silence.  I've checked that the soundbar is on the correct HDMI mode by holding the TV button on it's remote for 5seconds.

I've downloaded the latest firmware for the television and uploaded it via USB.

The only thing I haven't done is replace the HDMI cable, but if that was at fault, it seems odd that the sound comes from the soundbar when I restart the tv (hold 5 secs on the remote power).  I have ordered a new one anyway and it is coming on monday.

Hi steshaw43,

Welcome to the community.

I'll see if I can track down an answer. Maybe someone else in the community has an idea in the meantime though.

Thanks,

Hi steshaw43

Welcome to the community!

As far as I can tell, testing a different cable should prove insightful so it's good that you ordered one.

On the other hand, I'd also try resetting both the sound bar (steps on page 36 of the Manual) as well as resetting the TV.
