Hi all this issue has been driving me mad and i would hugely appreciate support please.
I have the Ht-s40r connected to a Samsung TV via optical cable. Works fine.
Ps5 is connected via hdmi to the TV. I set ps5 output to dolby, TV input to bitstream, TV output to dolby. I then get surround sound with noticeable lag.
If I change the playstation to pcm as many recommend it only comes through as stereo. I have tried endless mixtures of settings and I cannot get the ps5 to run without delay. Could a new television fix this? Or would I be wasting my money? Is it a soundbar issue?
Thank you
As a test, disconnect the soundbar and use the TV speakers.
Do you get the same delay?
Also, why not connect TV and soundbar over ARC instead of optical?
Hi thanks for the reply.
So firstly optical cable was preferred as hdmi kept getting black screen every now and again with various hdmi cables. Also It made not noticeable difference to delay.
When I switch to TV speakers delay is gone when using ps5. Interestingly when using inbuilt TV apps for movies etc this is a big improvement over the same things through ps5 even when using surround. (
There’s no video travelling on an ARC connection.
Are you saying that using ARC made the HDMI inputs to the TV black out, but this stopped when you went optical?
That's right, hdmi between soundbar and tv kept causing temporary black screen. Also if I paused a movie, when I unpaused it would take 2-3 seconds for the audio to play along with the video. The optical cable has not given any of these issues.
That’s weird, there’s no video on that cable. Did you try an alternative HDMI cable?
Hi yes various different types
I have the same configuration (but no PS5) with a Samsung s90c connected to a hts40r via hdmi on port 3 (hdmi arc) with no issue at all. Btw there is a video output on that port with a fixed message showing that you must switch to another input to view anything. If I remember well I configured the port without enhanced bandwidth and no use of earc in order to avoid any issue since the soundbar is not hdmi 2.1
That sounds very strange.
My LG GX TV feeds its LG GX soundbar via the eARC HDMI port, and the HDMI In on the soundbar feeds back into that port as a conventional HDMI In for video, from my UHD player, while the soundbar handles the audio.
I would want anything telling me I couldn’t use the eARC port as a conventional HDMI In when I wanted to.
@royabrown2 hts40r has got no hdmi in, so you cannot use the arc port for anything else unfortunately.
