Hi all, I hope someone can help. I have a problem with the Reader software for Mac. It displays no text: not on any buttons or inside dropdown menus (I can get you a screen grab if you like, but I've seen screen pictures of it operating normally: picture that, but with no text), and the toolbar menus are so sparse I can't operate it from there. Without the text cues I can't use the software, and so have no way of transferring purchased content to my PRS T1 (I'm in the UK, where the Reader Store has not yet launched-- I wanted to buy stuff from Waterstone's and transfer it over). I've looked around for solutions but found nothing relating to my problem. An online representative remotely took out the old files and reinstalled the software (I'd already done this, and did it again using MacKeeper's Wise Uninstaller for the old version, then reinstalled the same, most recent version again. No dice!). Has anyone else experienced this? Can it be fixed? Any ideas? I'm on a Macbook 13" running Os Lion 10.7.2. I think I have all the right components installed. Updater claims that everything is up to date. I'd be most grateful for any advice.

Solved! Go to Solution.
Hi All,
The font cache (Step 6) fromThalmus didn't help for me. However the problem is solved. After persisting with Sony e-mail support with multiple unsuccessful solutions and multiple day waits between e-mails. (The last one was 11 days) they finally came through with the answer.
"With regard to the reader for PC issue on your MAC system. I would ask you to check the following fonts.
- Helvetica Neue.
- Arial & Arial Bold."
I had ancient versions of Arial and Arial Bold in my user account fonts folder which overrode the sytem ones. I've disabled these fonts and Sony Reader for Mac now works.

I'm having the same problem anybody out there help us resolve it? I've tried to install on an Core 2 Duo iMac and a Core 2 Duo 13" MacBook Air both running Mountain Lion, but with no success. Also when I quit the application I get an error message that Reader for Mac has unexpectedly quit.
I'm using Calibre too-- I'd be lost without it. As it's evidently not just me, it would be very nice to get some help from Sony on this issue!
Same problem for me with Mac OSX 10.6.8. I reinstalled the latest version of the Reader for Mac twice and the application still doesn't display text on the buttons or drop down menu. I have to click blindly...
Anybody from Sony reading this? Any help available?
In the meantime I switched to "Calibre" which can also connect to the Sony reader and has no problem to manage my ebook library.

Hi all,
I escalated this thread for the attention of one of our contacts in Sony in the hope that someone will have an answer for you..
Has this problem been solved?
I am completely blocked from reading a book I've just paid for because of some new adobe id system means that I can't get around the problem with the Reader software using Calibre. Why does it have to be so hard. I thought I'd just by a book before being away for the weekend and now I can't read it and I can't find a solution anywhere.

I have enocuntered this problem as well: the DRM on a legitimate purchase makes it so that the book I bought with real money cannot be used on anything because this software doesn't work. This is, of course, part of a larger problem; we shouldn't be locked into one way of accessing content for which we pay and then if that one thing doesn't work, which it doesn't, we can't get at our stuff. The upshot is that I and anyone else for whom this is an issue will not buy e-books. We can't read them. Perhaps the 'YOU'RE LOSING REVENUE!!!' siren song might get someone's attention?
Agree with you completely. Luckily in my case the book I bought wasn't through the reader store but through another store. I was able to turn on wifi on my device and download the book that way.
But I would really love to be able to use the reader store and other bookstores saving the books on my computer as well as having them on my PRS-T1
I'm amazed that this issue has continued on for so long without any resolution.
It's now been a day and a half since I e-mailed sony support without any response.
