Like a good number of people I purchased a Sony PRS-1 during the Christmas period as I specifically wanted to connect with my local library in order to download eBooks.
At the moment I am unable to do this as my device is "not yet authorized for Adobe DRM content".
When tapping the 'Public Library' icon a message appears stating:-
Confirmation
In order to view library content, your Reader must first be authorized with an Adobe ID. Please proceed to the Reader Store and follow the directions for creating an account, your Reader will automatically be authorised with an Adobe ID.
Well the above directions appear to be straightforward but tapping the 'Reader Store' icon the message appears "Coming Soon" ! Not much use if I want my Reader authorized Now!
Do I have to "jump through hoops" to get my Reader authorized for Adobe DRM content?
I have downloaded from the Sony website Reader software which I have installed on my PC and have also updated the PRS-1 firmware to version: 1.0.03.11140.
Is there another way to authorize the Reader for Adobe DRM content or do I have to wait for the Sony Reader Store to become active which could be months away, why dont Sony give a definite date for the Store opening!
Just an update to my previous posting, after reading a considerable number of messages in this forum and also searching the web I found out that I needed to download ADE software and install it on my PC.
Since doing this my Reader was recognised by the Adobe software and it has now been authorised for 'Adobe DRM content'.
Now when tapping the 'Public Library' icon I can connect to my local library via Wi-Fi, I have just downloaded an eBook from the library and it was fairly simple to do.
I also like the fact that the eReader puts Wi-Fi into standby when it is not being used which should be less of a drain on the battery.
This is related to my post "Don't buy a T1..." where I said that you cannot necessraily get ebooks as a direct download to the T1 from more than a few UK libraries irrespective of whether they support ADE based ebooks.
I did everytthing as you did.
So I think, unless the firmware in the T1 has changed, then if one's local UK library is not on the "Public Libaray list" (mine was not, even though I could use ADE with on my PC, and was able to get ebooks, AND got the PC "Reader" softwer up and running fine), you can be snookered.
Lucky your libray showed up on the list.

Hi Steve,
As an existing member of my local library I already had a membership number and a PIN number which could be used in conjunction with my Sony Reader, I had also checked my local council's website (Libraries section) to see if they provided a 'digital' eBook service.
I did not input a library in the 'Public Libraries' section on the eReader but opted to 'Browse for Libraries' and under 'Great Britain' selected 'North West England' from the list of 12 regions. Then located 'Liverpool Libraries and Information Service' which provides library services in my area, this now shows in 'Saved searches'.
When choosing books I have found it easier to use my laptop to go to the Liverpool Libraries website and to browse to see what books are available note the titles I want and then use my eReader to download the books.

You do have to make sure your local library has a digital collection available if it's important to be able to use it.
There are libraries that you can use elsewhere on the globe - see the MobileRead guides/lists, which also has UK lists too - Penn and Singapore for example.
But, in UK you generally have to be able to get a ticket to use digital, if it has any, ie live/work in the area etc...
Oh, yes.........................
