I have been using my PRS-650 for almost 2 years now without any problem.
Yesterday the battery was low AND I wanted to change the books I had in it, so I plugged it in my iMac's USB port for the night.
When I sat at the computer this morning to do the book-changing on Calibre, I had the surprise to NOT see the e-reader on the menu. I checked in the Finder, but it wasn't there. I also checked in Disk Utility (where a hard drive might show even if it doesn't show anywhere else, in case of a problem)... but it wasn't there either.
I unplugged it, tried again. Nothing.
While it was unplugged, I got the message the reader's battery was dying. WHAT?! But it had been charging all night long!
That's when I noticed that altough it said "USB connected", it also said "Charging stopped"!!!
So I took the wall charger and let it charge until it said the battery was full, a good 2-3 hours, before trying anything else.
Then I tried again. Nothing.
I closed Calibre, tried again. Nothing.
Re-opened Calibre, re-tried. Nothing.
I tried another cable. Nothing.
I changed USB ports. Nothing.
I tried a hard reset. No luck.
So I tried one last thing: I tried it on another computer, a Windows PC running XP. And it worked! No problem whatsoever. The computer "saw" the drive, Calibre showed it too, and it said it was USB connected AND charging.
WHAT THE HECK?! What happened between a few weeks back and yesterday that made the PRS-650 Mac UN-compatible?! The last big update I made on my Mac was Mountain Lion and that was a few months back, and I have used the Reader on it since then without any problem.
Anyone has an idea on how to make it Mac-compatible again?
I ruled out anything hardware related, since it's not a USB port nor the cable, it's not the unit itself since it works on the PC. It's just that the Mac does not SEE the PRS-650 and I can't see how to force it to mount?!
Thanks!
