First, have you registered and synced as per the manual ?

Secondly, where were the books purchased from ?

Some non e-pub books have a DRM "lock" put on them, so you can only read them on the reader they want you to use/buy.

Amazon does this, and, in theory, you can only read kindle editions on a kindle reader.
