You may need to do a hard reset, but this will erase all the data on the reader. So a bit of a last resort

I suggest you leave it charge overnight, use a wall charger not via your PC. It may wake up, if not try a soft reset, if that fails then you may need to do the hard reset.

And if that doesn't work, sling it back at the sellers under the Sale of Goods Act. Your contract is with the seller, and it is their responsibility to replace it if not fit for purpose, within "a reasonable time" - usually at least 12 months. This over-rides any warranty given with the device - which are usually designed to try to muddy the waters, not to help the customer !

Incidentally, their legal responsibility is not fullfiled by telling you to send it to Sony - they should do this, and any charges shoud be covered by them.

Thanks for the advice. I left it plugged in overnight and it was fine this morning.... obviously my battery must've been completely flat (which it never has been before!).... D'oh!

Problem solved and I'm much happier

Glad it worked out for you

To improve the battery life don't let it go totally flat and always use the wall charger.

If the PC or laptop goes to sleep with the reader plugged in the reader will discharge.

To best charge the reader fully it's preferable to leave it for a number of hours (overnight is good). PC's and laptops can fall asleep if left for a long time.

And only charge when it's down to 1-2 bars, don't keep "topping it up" before this, the batteries don't like it !
