My E5 is not charging as it used to do a week ago.

Hello, my name is Victor and am 16 from sweden, I have a problem with my Xperia E5 not wanting to charge.

Long story short, this problem happened a day ago (2017-03-20). I put my phone on charge as I do everyday for 4-5 hours a day, and for some reason it has stopped working. At first I thought the thing you put in the wall has fried somehow but then i tried to charge with my PC and it still wouldn't work.

I made a test with the phone by leaving it on charge with exact X% of battery and exact time of when i put it on charge, I came back three hours later and it still was on X% of battery.

This is the second E5 I have within 6 months because my first one got accidentally dropped in water and this one won't even charge.

I've tried charging it when it's turned off but that didn't work at all so my question is.... What do I do? Do I leave it for service, change battery or buy a new phone?

I'd like to get answers or solutions of what i can do about this problem.

Thanks for reading and hopefully understanding what I wrote 😕

Hi @VictorFord, welcome to our forum!

I'm sorry to hear about this and about what happened to your previous Xperia E5. Slightly_frowning_Face

Was there any change when you tried charging the phone in safe mode as @nolramlb suggested or with another Sony original charger? This is a very good way to see if this is caused by a third party application which could be the case since you started to experience this all of a sudden.

If you still couldn't charge your phone, try powering it off and see if you are able to charge it above 49%. You can also try and hold the power button and the volume up button at the same time until you get 3 short vibrations, this will force the phone to shut down > start it up again and start to charge.

Let us know how it goes!

:smileyinfo: Forgot to add that I can't charge the battery more than 49% and that worries me.

have you tried charging with another usb charger? or check your usb charger with another device?

also check if the usb port is loose.

try to charge your device while you are on safe mode

@nolramlb, I tried the safe mode and it worked once but wouldn't work a second time.

@Jonas, Tried that as well and that didn't work at all inlcluding trying another original Sony charger.

I may just buy a new Sony but i don't know which model since I only need a phone to write messages, call people and use kik. That is all I need.

Thanks for the help!

Thanks for the update!

Sorry to hear that there was no change. Slightly_frowning_Face

in this case, I would recommend that you perform a software repair using Xperia Companion. This will delete all data stored on the internal storage in your phone and reinstall the latest available software in your phone. Since data is being removed it's advised to create a backup using Xperia Companion before starting with the software repair.

If there is no change after the software repair has been completed your device will need to be examined by a trained technician at an authorized service centre.

Since you are from Sweden you can create a service order online using the following link: http://support.sonymobile.com/se/repair/

Let us know how it goes!

Hi, my E5 battery had been behaving badly - % charge not always increasing when plugged in - even when the phone indicated that it was charging.

Hard reboots didn't always work, and sometimes it would only charge properly when switched off.

Reluctantly (because I've never been brave enough to do something like this before)  I backed up the phone then did a factory reset and restore - and my phone is now completely fixed!!
