We would like to present to you the winner of our competition on the topic of "Food". Read the interview and discover more about the photographer and the story behind his image.
Firstly, can you please tell us a little about yourself and why you took up photography?
I live near Poznań. I work in photography on a daily basis, primarily in the advertising field. While studying photography together with my boyfriend we created a photo duo and have been working together for over 3 years now.
I stole my interest in photography from my dad who has always been fascinated by it. As a child I loved to look through old family albums, then as a teenager I used to borrow my dad's camera until I finally got my first professional camera of my own.
How did you feel when you were told you had won the competition?
I was very happy but also surprised because it was the first time I managed to win a photo contest!
Tell us what inspired you to capture this image and what equipment you used.
During our studies we went for pizza to our Italian friend Angelo, who runs a small pizzeria in Poznań. One day, my boyfriend and I decided to make an unusual ad for him that was supposed to attract attention, mainly of the students. We’ve created a series of photos with pizza in different, unusual configurations. The picture showing pizza as a mask is one of them. This picture was taken with a Nikon d700.
Can you share some tips that could help other photographers to create photos worthy of entering a competition?
I think the idea counts more than the equipment itself. You can surprise, amuse or touch the viewer even with a photo taken with your phone. What’s important is to know what emotion you want to evoke and then trying to do it.
Don't get discouraged and definitely take part in competitions! The competition always motivates you to create interesting works and develop your creativity, even if you don't win the 1st place.
