How do you transfer video from Sony handycam to pc?

I love my sony HD handycam but after having it a year I thought it about time I transfer all my video clips from it to laptop to back up.

I thought this would be simple...... WRONG!!!

When I insert the SD card the laptop only recognises the photos and not the videos.

So I installed the disc that came with handycam. It then proceeded to find every photo on laptop and place then into some sort of calendar. I thought this was pretty cool. But whatever I do, it doesn't bring up the actual video clips.

So all I can do is record, and playback thru the tv.

Not impressed. The instructions as to video transfer are minimal and to be honest I'm totally ****** off with it. Why do Sony make it so difficult? No wonder people stick with apple products. They work and are easy to use.

Any help would be welcome. Sorry for rant but I feel so frustrated with an otherwise excellent product.

Hello joyman - Welcome to the Sony Forums

In a Windows 7 environment, you will need to use the Firewire/iLink output of the camera and not USB. This means that your computer/laptop will need to have a functioning Firewire socket.

If you need some more help, there is an online Sony guide for transferring video available here:
