I'm prompted to post here having just read a thread on these forums that started a year ago where somebody had the same issue I've currently got.
On inspection of my 55XE93005 I've got 3 thunderflies/stormflies beneth the front panel. This is a TV less than 5 months old and the very first TV in this house to experience the problem, 2 previous Samsungs and a Panasonic have never had this problem.
The other thread I've just read indicated that Sony were willing to help, however reading a similar thread on AV Forums, somebody from Denmark was told no, sorry by Sony.
This is 3 small thunderflies. I cam sat a good distance away from the TV and I have to realy concentrate to see them. The screen has to be incredibly bright and I have to look out for them, even then they are small. However them being there is already annoying - I know they are there!
Other people have mentioned that once the flies die they either drop to the bottom of the TV unseen or go totally transparent, so you cannot see them.
There will be hassle I know - Sony will probably send somebody out to take a look, if it is authorised I assume my TV is taken away to investigate possible repair. If no repair is possible and if there are no 55XE93005's around I could end up with a lower model. The replacement would almost certainly be a refurb - so my lovely 5 month old TV is replaced with something 12 months old etc.
What are the thoughts here?
Give Sony a ring and see what they suggest? If they say no, then everything stops anyway.
If they say yes, is it worth all the hassle? What would you guys do?
Hi there,
We will look into this and update this thread when we receive some information for you. In the meantime, other members are sure to have some advice to offer on what option to choose.
Best wishes,
Ed
Hi StoufferTheCat,
Welcome to our community!
I came across similar reports from customers before and I think the reason this could happen is that the display panel is not air-tight by design so the ability of insects to crawl into it is not a manufacturing fault. Nevertheless, in a lot of cases, Sony ends up replacing the TV with either the same model or a higher spec model if yours isn't available.
I'd suggest that you'd keep following up with Sony support on this to see their feedback after checking the pictures you sent them.

Just to bring this one up to date.
A little "to and from" with Sony - I sent them pictures, they asked me to turn the TV off and make the room as bright as possible for at least 2hrs to see if the bugs could be attracted out of the unit.
They didn't move in the 8hrs I left the TV off with every light and lamp in the room switched on.
Call this morning, they are arranging a like-for-like swap-out.
It will be "factory certified" however I still have the remainder of the 5yr warranty from John Lewis (where it was purchased) so I'm not too bothered on that front.
Must admit, process was far easier than some forums had made me believe it would be.
