Apps on SONY BRAVIA KDL40WD653BU Smart TV

Apps on SONY BRAVIA KDL40WD653BU Smart TV

Hi

My son wants a Smart TV for Xmas and I've been looking at:

SONY BRAVIA KDL40WD653BU Smart 40" LED TV

Does anybody know if Apps can be installed on this TV?

Thanks

Hi,
yes but only the Apps presents in Opera Store (Opera System, I haven't a list of the Apps available) and not Android TV because this model hasn't the Android TV OS.

LMGTFY:-

It talks about having YouTube, but that needing a firmware update, so not hopeful.

The details do say Apps - Yes; but there may be a limited choice.

Because certainly, this is not an Android TV (so this discussion really belongs under 'Other') and so may disappoint your son if he is after a good collection of apps.

But Richer Sounds are selling it for £329, and calling it 'app-equipped', so you might want to ring them and ask what apps it is equipped with:-

Just a a little lower down that page is the first Android set:-

for £449. 43" so a little bigger, but with Android, and 3D as well, which might be a much better bet, and much more future proof, with a bigger and more flexible App Store that can only keep growing. Plus YouView, which brings with it the ITV and All4 Player apps the 653s don't have, and are unlikely to get.

So well worth the extra, IMHO, if you can run to it. Or get another member of the family to chip in and make it a joint present, perhaps.

YouView Superuser, but not an employee of YouView, nor retained by them for this purpose. It's purely me speaking

Hi there

The KDL-40WD653BU, is a budget Smart TV - as such, the apps are rather limited as well as the fact that there is no web browser for this TV.

I have to echo what Royabrown says above -if the budget can extend a little bit more, a Sony Android based TV would be more suitable for the needs.

Cheers
