Still no love from Sony on the Hungarian support page for KDL-50W809C.

It says that the update should be available from today (19.04.), but no change since 14.04. No download to USB option. I will use the file from German page to give it a try. They should be the same.

@neobluenet: If you don't use an external speaker system, try the archos player. Link to Google play Store with the plugin pack: Link to Google Play Store. It has a Library function for local and network storage, subtitle download and easy sync lip correction. If You are interested to try out but have problem with sound, please pm me. I use the paid version since I bought my KDL-50W809C piece of c**p. This software is the only reason why I didn't returned my TV.

I've got the same problem. Even though the update doesn't bring any cutting edge functionality, it still delivers some minor stability improvements, which is nice knowing is there...

Okay.. Finnaly got it to upgrade. Hallelujah 🙌!

Formated USB stick to NTFS copied PKG file across but used USB 1 socket at the top of the TV not thr USB 3 socket for HD and it picked the update up after I powered down the TV.

Just as well I work in IT services in a local college were I live in West London.

Just waiting while it optimising all apps.

Next step full factory reset..

To be honest any updates that brings stability and gets rid of more bug is well welcomed in my book. As long as it does not brick your TV that is...

On my first attempt I used a USB NTFS which simply prompted with the normal USB detected screen and what would I like to do. I then restarted the TV and tried a USB formatted to FAT32. The update was detected and completed without any problem. So I cannot say which worked, restart or FAT32? At least something you could try. This was on a KD-55XD9305.

Is the factory reset after the update really necessary?

For me 100%! with out fail And it's best practice same as Andriod phone.

If you can.

It clears the CACHE and any crap or shall I say bugs left behind the old firmware.

Clean slate.. Always works out better in the long run.

You can leave the TV as it is if it works fine each their own.
