Hi Roobb ( and others ),

Well, in an effort to future-proof my setup, I've now got a Sony x800m2. The video output goes straight to my (HD ) tv, while the audio output goes into the n590 ( in effect, I'm using it as an AV receiver and 5.1 speakers ).

I realise it's a bit of a miss-matched mishmash at the moment, but I've always liked the 590's sound qualities - plus I come from an era where it's very annoying to throw out something that is still ( mainly ) working !

At least when the tv/5.1 setup need replacing, the disc spinner will be up to the job !

Regards,

Geoff P.

I've had a problem for some time now in loading any disc ( be it CD, DVD or Bluray). It starts to ingest it, but immediately spits it out again. They are new clean discs which work on other machines, so something odd is going on with my unit.

I've not seen this mentioned specifically on the Sony forum or elsewhere, so looked for something similar and started going through the fixes ( BD live off, unplug for 1 min +, check for update ).

Although there was no update available, this check would seem to have sorted it out ! - discs now load properly.

Is this Sony's way of encouraging us to check for updates ( but not telling us about it ! ).

GP

Sorry folks - I think I spoke too soon !

Just loaded another disc, and it took 2 or 3 goes before it would accept it.

It's very frustrating, because once loaded this system sounds and looks superb - does anyone have any bright ideas on this problem ? Is there a sensor in the slot that's not recognising the disc ?

Thanks,

GP

Your system is quite old ...maybe the lenses are simply dirty and you can try to clean up with a cleaning disk...

Thanks Rooob.

I don't think it's the laser/lens for a couple of reasons.

If and when a disc does eventually load, it will play faultlessly.

The problem is the slot-style loading system - often it will not accept any of the disc, sometimes the disc will get halfway in but then be ejected, and occasionally the disc will be smoothly accepted, load and play ! I'm assuming there's some sort of microswitch in the slot opening that initiates the feed rollers inside ?

I think Sony may have given up on this type of disc system, and gone back to the tried and tested tray loading.

Is there any reason why I couldn't buy another bluray player (tray-type ! ), and plug it into one of the HDMI inputs on the N590 ?

Thanks,

GP

It could be some mechanical part... of course you may connect another bluray device but it is a waste ...for this reason I do not like allinone setup

Are you still there Rooobb ?

I think you are right, and I'll just have to bite the bullet. One thing confuses me though - I asked Sony Support if I could hook up another player to the n590 via the unused HDMI In socket and retain the 3D/5.1 capabilities, and was told it was not possible !

I asked for clarification, but none was forthcoming - I know that socket is for connecting external devices, but is the n590 not capable of processing a 3D/5.1 signal received via it ?

Any ideas, mate ?

Thanks,

Geoff P.

I do not see any reason why it should not pass it through via the hdmi ports any kind of video signal up to 1080p and process all the codecs (plenty) that is able to manage
