The set has an HDMI socket but there is no mention of HD Ready in the manual - would it give HD viewing with a Virgin Media V Box ?

Yes it's HD ready, look here:

It's capable of showing any HD signal you care to feed to it, but it won't give you the best possible results.

The reason being that the resolution is only 1366 x 768, and the best HD signal is 1920 x 1080 (known as 1080p), so you can see that it needs to scale down the signal, and that can never look as good as if it's playing it on a screen with a native 1920 x 1080 resolution. Such a screen will mention "Full HD" or 1080p resolution.

As I said though, it'll play 1080p signal no problem.

Hi,

your tv is HD ready which means it will display 1080i resolution, broadcasts from your virgin box will either be 720p or 1080i, currently there are no broadcasts in FullHD so your ok there.

if you watch Blu Ray even though the discs are 1080p you will still get a HD picture but only up to 1080i, some would argue that they cannot tell the difference between 1080i and 1080p but i think that will depend on how good your equipment is at upscaling.
