Hi,

i believe you mean KDL40A12U, the red stand by light does this appear to be flashing in a sequence at all ?, for example flash 3 times then pause then flash 3 times again?, if so then you will need to contact your local Sony authorised repair centre for repair.

couple of things to try, unplug the tv from the mains and change remote batteries for fresh ones, if the tv still fails to come on then an engineer may be required.
