WinDVD BD Region Problems

Hi All,

Having bought a FZ31S recently today i tried, for the first time to play a Blu Ray DVD. On opening WinDVD BD asked for me to select a region. I closed this dialogue box, without selecting a region and subsequently I have been unable to play any Blu Ray disks. I think because it is not enabled with any region. I have been to the menu and WinDVD BD will not allow me to select any region (they are all greyed-out), and I have attempted to install the update available on vaio, but it failed. Does anyone have any advice on this?

Hi David and welcome to Club Vaio.

First check what version of WinDVD BD you have installed: -
1. Open the directory "C:\Program Files\InterVideo\DVDBD8\" .
2. Right-click the file "WinDVD.exe", choose "Properties", click "Details" tab.
3. The "File version" should state: 8.0.9.429.

To try to change the region, this sometimes works:
1. Open WinDVD
2. Click on the Audio symbol at the bottom (or the Video one will do).
3. When in the Audio Menu, click on the 'Settings' symbol. I think it is a cog-wheel.
4. By entering the screen this way, you should be able to set the BD and DVD Regions

How may changes until permanent are stated in the Win DVD BD options, Regions tab.?

Hi Masterswordish,

have you checked if there are any Win DVD updates for your Vaio via the Sony support download page, use the following link then select your model from the drop down list to download the update: Sony Support Downloads

sorry dont meen to hijack thread, Thalamus why the limited amount of changes of the region and is there a way around it if you have used all the changed? eg Anydvd (Matshita BD -CMB UJ-120)

Hi Masterswordish,

try removing your Blu-ray disc, once the disc's removed then see if you can change the region settings.?

Thalamus why the limited amount of changes of the region and is there a way around it if you have used all the changed?

IMO it's because companies want to fix prices..

Unfortunately once you've made the fifth BD region change your drive will be locked to that region. There are region free software/firmware fixes scattered across the web but unfortunately as far as I am aware they do not work on Matshita drives..

Not sure if I should be suggesting this but AnyDVD HD will make it region free, amongst other things.

Thalamus just said it wont work on Matshita drives

Unless there has been a recent change this is the situation with AnyDVD and Matshita Drives: -

You cannot play discs from more than one region.
