I am using a Vaio laptop to connect to a Samsung TV using a HDMI cable. I am unable to get the TV to operate as an external monitor with the laptop screen blacked out: each time I select FN +7 to select the correct setting: computer only; duplicate; extend; and projector only - and I select projector ony - the Samsung TV reports that the mode is not supported.

As I wish to view films on the external TV without that film being displayed on the laptop at the same time - it does not seem possible; I may add that I can use the settings for computer only; duplicate and extend without any issues. Also the Laptop does recognise that the external monitor is a Samsung.

Laptop graphics is a separate card: ATI Mobility HD 5145 with 512mb of ram and I have a USB Tuner connected and I use Microsoft media centre to view the content as well as films, pictures, etc.

Any ideas on how to solve this would be much appreciated

Regards,
