Win 7 start-up problems following a forced shutdown

Following a software crash (Paragon Drive Backup 9 Pro) on VPCF 22C5E I

had to resort to a forced shutdown.

Now on every start-up I get the following message after the VAIO logo:

Drive 0: primary 01 win vista/2008 NTFS System Res

primary 02 linux NTFS

Insert startup disk in floppy drive and press F2 to run setup

Pressing enter at this point allows the boot-up process to continue

normally!!

Any feedback on this will be much appreciated.

Hi Graham,

As you are able to boot normally by pressing Enter I would first check that there is nothing in either Scheduled Tasks or Startup items (System Configuration) that is causing this.

The other cause is that the Master Boot Record (MBR) has been corrupted. If this is the case then you will need to download a Windows 7 Repair Disk from HERE (assuming that you are using 64 bit OS) and burn the ISO image to DVD.

Edit: if /FixMbr fails to resolve the problem then use the /FixBoot option.

Thankyou for replying.

Forgive me for possibly showing my lack of knowledge, but it appears to me that the above described message appears before any boot-up operation takes place but after any BIOS opps.

What do you think?

Hi Graham,

As I wasn’t sure exactly how far the boot process progressed after BIOS checks I suggested the actions in the first paragraph of my reply, but I still think that this is a boot issue as BIOS loads the Boot Sector contents from MBR. I recommend trying a repair as detailed in the above Microsoft link.
