Most probably you will need to pay for it. Sometimes, this can be just a cause of a loose connection from the HDD to the motherboard.

If you are confident enough, you can probably try to do a simple "reseat".

Hi!
Yes, basically what heppened was, my laptop froze. I turned it off, and then on, 'VAIO' logo showed and then nothing, just black screen. Turned it off/on couple of times and then ' A disk read error occurred, press ctrl+alt+Del' message showed.
Been reading around and it seems that HDD is gone.. Last year I sent my Vaio to warranty repair, it stated 'HDD boot fail'. I am out of warranty, but as HDD was changed once, will they fix it for free or I'll have to pay?

I have devided HDD in half, so is there any chance of getting files back?

If this helps, then laptop is being used daily.

Thanks,
hunker7
