Hi, I have a VPCEB2MOE that is less than two years old. I don't know if the warranty is for 1 year or 2 years But my laptop has almost completely failed in the last 2 days. System check by windows says I have hard drive and memory erros detected. I don't know what these mean, I don't even know if they are a result of viruses and trojans, As far as I am aware I have a functional up to date antivirus and it hasn't detected anything.

I tried to restore the system but that didn't fix anything at all. it says i have hard drive, RAM, and system registry errors. Please shed some light on this.

Hi SAMXAN.

Can you post a screen-shot of this System Check window?

There is probably nothing at all wrong with your computer. A malware program is , I think, creating false alerts and is a SCAM.

System Check is probably nothing to do with windows - it is likely to be a program you have accidentally downloaded when visiting a website and it does nothing except give you lots of false error reports in the hope that they will force you to buy the full version of System Check. It is at best a scam to get money out of you and at worst it could clone your credit card details - so DON'T part with any money.

Have a look at these links to see more about System Check and how to remove it from your computer: -

http://www.wiki-security.com/wiki/Parasite/SystemCheck

http://www.spywareremove.com/removesystemcheckrogue.html

Hi,

I have managed to delete the system check thing. I don't think I have unistalled the programme as i couldn't see it in control panel where you unistall programmes. I searched for where the system check folder and files and deleted them one by one, emptied the recycle bin etc.I did all of this in safe mode. I now don't see it on my computer, and I no longer keep getting those annoying messages. However, my computer desktop still appears black, I still don't see my icons and still don't see all the programmes. I don't think this thing can be gotten rid off as easily. Any suggestions?

Hi Blencogo, thanks for replying. Yes, I did make recovery CDs, but it will take me a while to get hold of them. I I have given up on trying to get rid of this thing and want to do complete system recovery. Only thing am worried about is loosing my Microsoft office 2010, a friend gave me one of her licence keys. I can't see MS office in my computer so can't get hold of the activation key. Even if I managed to get the key again, I don't think it will work as the key has been used once ( even though on the same computer).
