Can't get any sound when windows is running from my Vaio laptop, plays all sounds on startup untill I log into windows, volume controlls in the bottom right of the screen have disapeared

I had a similar problem. I had no sound and the physical buttons on the keyboard no longer worked. It was after I had uninstalled software from the program list. Some programs I didn't know and thought weren't used. I used the windows recovery tool to roll back the changes and it was fine.

Lesson was that if you remove programs/exe's because you don't know what they are, google them first to find out what they do.

Hi matthastwell and welcome.

Can you give us a bit more information please?

1. Are you using the original Sony XP Operating System?

2. Have you tried reinstalling the Sigmatel HD Audio Driver and also the UAA High Definition Audio Class Driver?

3. In Device Manager, are there any warning signs against any entries in "Sound, Video and Games Controllers"?
