Error Message: Cannot acquire the configuration settings for Vaio Update

Hi everyone, I see this has been asked before but not solved.

Our hard drive died so we had to get a new one, now when I start Vaio update I get the following error message:

Cannot aquire the configuration settings for Vaio Update.

Does anybody have any idea where to get these? Or how to fix it?

Operating system windows vista, model VGN-AR88E.

Am also having this same update response sice reinstalling.

Updates are there to be downloaded but only from the website once visiting,vaio update reports no updates available or cannot acquire configuration settings for vaio update.

Hi. With that new hard drive, did you use the recovery disk that was provided by Sony when you purchase the notebook?

Hi I'm the original poster of this message, and gave up solving it!

I never used the original recovery disc as is stored somewhere very far away in the garage, good idea though maybe I'll dig it out.
