sony vaio recovery discs

I just purchased my new sony vaio but it wont burn recovery discs, i tried differant discs, i contacted sony who just said we will send you them, but wont say why it wont work im worried there maybe a fault in the computer, has anyone heard of this?

Hi scobs22,

When you say you have tried different discs, do you mean you have tried different brands (Verbatim and Sony seem to work ok) and also have you tried DVD+R and DVD-R?

Have you installed any third party burning software?

I have also just tried to use discs to create recovery discs. The problem I had was that the system copied 3 and a half discs out of 5. It then stopped copying half way through the 4th disc saying it could not continue with the back-up. I was using Philips DVD+RW 4.7gb discs. Any suggestions please. Regards Eric

Nikkilim,

Do you actually own a Vaio and have you ever burned recovery disks. You cannot use a third party program to create the recovery media.

The reason the question was raised regarding third party burning software is that such programs can possibly adversely affect the built in utility, this was not a suggestion to use such a program.
