OK, need help: Bought a Lacie d2 DVD+/-RW drive with USB 2.0 & Firewire connections. My Vaio has a S400 4-pin i.Link connector but only USB 1.1, so I bought a Belkin PCMCIA 2-port USB 2.0 adaptor. Both items recognised and installed fine, but any attempts to write to the drive via the USB 2.0 results in a system freeze and occasional fatal errors. Using the Firewire connector and 4-pin to 6-pin cable doesn't even get a response from the Vaio, and I've also tried it on a friend's laptop via the same methods. Drive works fine via USB 1.1, just slowly. I'm worried that there's a problem with my PCMCIA slot, as I've some system slowdown when reading from a Compact Flash adaptor in the past. Does anyone have any experience of any of the above?

I have had a LaCiE drive, and I haven't been impressed with the performance with VAIOs.

I ended up selling it.

You could always try a firewire hub which is self powered.
