Z1XSP won't burn dvds

Having difficulties writing AVI film from Click to DVD Ver1.3 onto a TDK DVD+ RW 4.7mb disc, never used. It asks me to enter disc, says it will be a few seconds then slows down and stops.

I came across something in the KB that said you could only record onto media up to 700kb - is that right? As a complete novice to DVD burning, do you need to format them in any way before use?

PC is Z1XSP nearly new.

any help greatly appreciated....

Hi,

You can write upto 4.3GB on a DVD.
Is there any error message?

Thanks. All I get is the click to dvd message saying "insert a recordable dvd disc in the drive. It takes several seconds to recognise the disk". But then it just hangs.....and nothing happens.

The avi file itself is 7.5gb long but I thought it would give me the option when I try to create the dvd to diminish picture quality to fit it onto the disc? Even if it doesn't, click to dvd seems to recognise the avi file no problems.....

Will try a complete reboot (as I know this simple step can sometimes fix things) and report back.

You'll probably need to cut the AVI in half.

Thanks - there is a difference between DVD+RW discs and DVD-RW discs isn't there? And from what I can see, the drive is a DVD-RW drive (according to the sticker on the front) and therefore it won't write to DVD+RW disks? Could that be correct? If I try to look at the disk in the drive in win explorer it doesn't see it there but it says the drive is working fine. And I've played back dvds without problem in it.....

So I might try getting some dvd-rw disks and see where that takes me.....but it would help if you'd confirm my understanding as true or false!

No you are right, DVD+RW and DVD-RW are very different.
You need to make sure you get the correct type for your drive.

Thanks. I got a dvd-rw and it seems to be happy with it....

Is there a more efficient way to burn dvds than using

Would another software bundle do this more effectively? And more quickly?

Well, there are many DVD burning applications on the market, I have used Sonic MyDVD.
