By connection an additionally external power supply for the external harddisk the problem was solved. So I think the USB Port doesn't deliver enough power for this device.

Günter Kehrer

Hello !

I am running notebook harddisks externally via usb connection (XP Home) and have a problem:

Everything works well until the file to be transferred is bigger than about 6 kB. Then I get the message disk full even when there are 6 GB available. So I wanted to use this to store backup images which ist not possible. The driver is the one XP delivers, so there are no points of adjustment. I think, that the harddisk sometimes needs some time to store data or empty buffers, which is interpreted by XP as "unavailable" instead of waiting some sec's.

Does anyone have an idea what I can do ? I have already written to the US distributor of this USB device but there still is no answer. (info@byteccusa.com)

Device data:
ME-930 Series 2,5" External IDE to USB

Any ideas appreciated.
Regards
Günter Kehrer

But remember, I have these problems starting already at 6 MB sized files. Currently I am testing if this is a problem with the vaio power supply via the usb port. (because it is running well with desktops). So I have ordered a separate 5 V 2 A power supply for the external harddisk to see if this solves the problem.

But thanks for your help ! I'll kepp you informed.
