Why do you went to lower the freq anyways??

The reason is becasue you could damage the hardware. The given freq by Sony is one they must have tested and therefor that would be the best option. plus it might even not work properly if you lower it.

I agree with Jay, the VAIO application controls the CPU well enough.

I can see your reasoning, to lower clock speed and preserve battery power. But reducing it would make no difference to the overall battery time, as the ACPI system in the laptop isnt designed to utilize the lower clock speed. There are no apps that allow you to underclock as far as I know, and im pretty sure there is a minimum FSB on motherboard northbridges, which limits the clock speeds lower end.

I think there is some software but (not shore) as i remember. The thing was that even having the software it might still not work as the software might not support the hardware for many mother boards. I think the software was also for desktop use . THIS SOFTWARE WAS FOR VARYING THE FAN SPEED AND NOT THE CPU SPEED.

The bottom line is thats why they made Intel® Centrino¿.

The thing is i dont know how this compares to a p4 processor in real life. Thats why i just bought k315 laptop (P4) but if someone can tell me, then it would help me.

Thank you guys for your answers to my questions...
The reason I wanted to do this is that sometimes i let my laptop on for a few apps like winamp and want to litsen to music and do nothing so i thought if i lower the frequency then the lap will not get hot and i can shut the lid and will not damage my display.. hope you understood what i wanted to say..(sorry for my bad english)

Anyway now i realized that is a stupid idea
