vaio power management

Hi,

I have a problem with my new vaio s1hp.

i updated to win xp sp2 and now i can no longer start the vaio power management viewer and i cannot see all the options in the power management in the controlpanel.

When starting the viewer it says i have to enable the vaio power management. but i dont know where.

can anyone help me?

You can the following:
Look on your VAIO for the file Utils.exe (should be around 12MB) and run the program. That program installs (re-installs) softwares like Fn-Keys and so on. That file also contains the VAIO Power Management if I am not mistaken.
If you cannot find it on your HDD, you can download it VAIO Link in the "Driver and patch download" section.

If you want to manually disable the Power Management, here is what you can do:
START>Run then type in msconfig -6 and click on OK. This will open the autostart-manager. There you should find SPMgr (Sony Power Manager). You can simply deactivate the box in front of it, click on OK and restart your VAIO. If you want re-enable it, just follow the same same steps, and put the check-mark back into the SPMgr box.

hi,

thank you for your quick answer.

i tried to reinstall the util.exe. But after the installation, the power management was missing as before.

i checked if i have unselected the spmgr.exe from the sartup. but it was not listed.

i looked into the folder

c:\programme\sony\vaio power management

there is no file spmgr.exe. there are some other files. one is spmgr.exe.manifest. i tried to rename it and start it, but with no luck.

any other sugestions?

my laptop is running out of power quickly without the power manager.

I have solved the problem. I have done the following:

installed the utils.exe from my c:\utils folder. after that the spmgr didnt work, as before.
then i installed the utils.exe from the download area of vaio.

After that it worked!!

Note: It didn't worked after reistalling only the utils.exe from the internet. perhaps there are some files missing.
