VAIO Zone TV

I bought a VGN-A217S in austria... Because my german sucks i decided to install a fresh copy of WinXP in english.

I read somwhere in this forum that i can buy VAIO Zone for 70EUR. I found the program on eMule (like to try befor i buy), downloaded it, updated to the latest version. All drivers that i could find are installed (no quiestoin marks in Device Manager) and Windows is updated. Remote control doesent work at all and when i try to run TV program i get this:
An unknown error has accured... Application stops...

What did I do wrong? Somwhere in instalation of drivers? How can i check if I have the right drivers installed or is it the problem with instalation of VAIO Zone?

I know 70EUR isnt much, but if it doesent work it's too much!

Is there a way of installing the application from the recovery DVDs? One rogram in german wont kill me...

I managed to install the german version of the software on my VAIO VGN-A217S from the recovery DVDs by unpacking SONY. PAC files. When I start VAIO Zone i get this:
Es ist ein unbekannter Fheler aufgetreten.
(Fheler-ID = 0 - 0 - 15465 - 1737)

What does that mean?? Help please!

It is the same message as you were receiving previously “An unknown error has occurred” followed by the error code.

1737 = the named syntax isn't supported.

I don't know what that means. Google said me that.
Have you tried to reinstall the software? Anyway, VAIO Zone need special Hardware for watching TV. And older VAIOs have a different VAIO-Zone version. It should be version 1.4

New VAIOs come with a other version than that. If you have one of these, then it could explain this problem.

It's a VAIO VGN-A217S new.

VAIO Zone from the restore DVDs is V 1.2 and it works but I dont like it in german. Is it possible that it only works on Windows with German language and the error number is telling me that?

I also installed a newer English version, but i can't find English versions of Sonic Stage and Remote Controll. Maybe this is the problem or am I missing some othe program or driver?

Is ther any other programs that would let me use the TV card? VAIO Zone is nice but I really don't need it that much. I can use other programs for pictures, videos and music but what about the TV??

Language isn't interesting for drivers. The language is only dumb letters on screen which make a software useable. I had a ripped VAIO-Zone in US-english on my VAIO. It worked fine. But it's slow and I found a few bugs which are not fixed until now.

Anyway, whether you bought your VAIO new or not is beside the point. The model itself isn't the newest.

The new version of VAIO-Zone which you could use is 1.4.11
If you can't find it in the driver section of your VAIO, io VAIO-Link.
Then select the PCG-K415S. download the newest VAIO zone updates from there. Disconnect Internet and install the drivers. I tried that, it works. But not if you are online. Because the installer checks whether you use the correct VAIO model. Maybe that fix the problems.

But VAIO Zone would be still in german.

Again installed WinXp PRO with all drivers and updates...

Then i installed in order:
- SonicStage V 2.1 and Update to 2.3
- VAIO Zone Remote Commander 1.1.01.08050 (I can't find newer)
- VAIO Entertainement Platform 1.2.01.11110
- VAIO Music Server Controller 1.1.00.10251
- WINDVDX 5.00.11.594
Finally my all time favorite
- VAIO Zone 1.2.02.12090
- Update to 1.2.05
- VAIO Launcher Update to 1.4.11

Will this work now? Of course not! I still get the same error... What am I missing here? Isn't an error number suppose to tell you something?

Maybe some other day huh?

And then when I'll finally make it work I'll be able to complain that it's SLOW and start looking for a different software just to watch the evening news... from my bed... maybe even use the remote controll...

Or maybe i should start today looking for a non VAIO computer...:smileyconfused:

That's the thing what I don't like about VAIOs with TV docking station.

You have to use these crappy SonySoftware. And If you contact e-support and complain what's going wrong. Then you notice that they........arrghh forget it.

I can't help you there. I'm sitting not behind these fuckoptimized Drivers and Software.

Hi well I am no expert but i have a vgn a417s with docking station and the tv will not work unless connected to the docking station,,,,

Hello, try MediaPorter. It is an open source software that amongst other things is a TV Tuner software that recognises a huge number of TV Tuners and I think the Sony TV Tuner that comes with those AV-Docks is one of them.
