Hello Adam - Welcome to the Sony Forums

If you are unable to edit these AVI files in iMovie, one option is to use your Windows based PC and a free video file converter such as http://www.winxdvd.com/avi-to-mpeg/ to convert these into MPEG files which should be readable in iMovie. I have the same issue when trying to put AVI files onto an iPad and I find that once they have been converted to MPEG, they are a lot more 'Apple Friendly'.

Hope this helps,

Simon

Hi everyone

Bought a videocamera a couple of years ago and didn't have the time to edit the filmed material so the DVDs kept piling up.

Now the time has come to do something about this and therefore I stand here, in front of you with a question. I have a PC and a Mac, and want to use iMovie on the Mac to edit the movies. Though I don't have a CD-tray to the Mac, and if I understand it correctly, iMovie wont edit .avi-files.

So how do I get the movie from the DVD to iMovie in a state where I can start edit the movies. I can't be the only one with this puzzle in front of me.

All tips and tricks are most welcome!

Yours truly,

Adam
