How to edit my movie?

Hi!

I'm from Croatia and I don't speak English perfectly, but I hope you will understand my problem.

When I use my Sony camera, I get .VOB file. I can finalize DVD and then look at this file on my PC, and it works OK.

However, if I want to edit that movie, then I have problems. I haven't got software for editing .vob files, so I downloaded some free converters that converted my .vob file to .wmv file. Then I open Windows Movie Maker, import .wmv file, edit it, and try to save it. And then appears problem - Movie Maker says it can't save it!

I used Movie Maker in many cases, and I didn't have such problem. It saved all my files correctly, until now.

So, why it can't save files which are made from .VOB files?

What to do?

So, is it possible to edit my .VOB file made by Sony camera?

If it is not possible in Movie Maker, is there some other free software for it?

Have you tried converting to VOB files to AVI instead using software such as the free one available here:

Also, it may be worth checking to see if you have the latest 2011 version of Movie Maker which you can download from here:

http://explore.live.com/windows-live-movie-maker

I can't install last 2011 version of Movie Maker, because it is for Win Vista and Win 7, and I have Windows XP.

I don't understand your sentence:

Do you recommend http://www.convertvobtoavi.com/ or you say I should avoid http://www.convertvobtoavi.com/ ?

Last days I used exactly that software to convert VOB to WMV, and later I had problems with this WMV in Movie Maker (it wasn't able to save changes in WMV).

Also, my husband used another one software to convert VOB to WMV, and that WMV had the same problems in Movie Maker.

So, I suppose there were not problem in converting VOB to WMV.

Other ideas what to do?

Maybe my problem is solved.

Today I converted VOB to AVI (not to WMV), and opened AVI in Movie Maker. Then I made changes and save it without any problem. So, maybe it is solution.

Tomorow I will test it more, and I then I will know.
